In February 2020, just a month before COVID-19 sent human society into social distancing, I travelled to Arizona to walk and run in solidarity with the San Carlos Apache people and defend their sacred ancestral lands of Oak Flat from threatened mining operations.
While encamped at Oak Flat I had the opportunity to sit down with Kelly Moody of the Ground Shots Podcast and record this episode in which I talk about my background in the environmental movement defending old-growth redwoods from logging, the diversity of ways to connect to and defend nature, why indigenous-led environmental campaigns are important, and how to hold the grief that comes with opening our hearts to the world around us at the very time that our species is destroying it. Take a listen, I hope you enjoy it.
